Alvaro Siza Vieira, born in Motosinhos (Porto) in 1933. Since the end of the 1950s he has been operating with his own professional studio in Porto. He has created many prestigious works including the Portuguese Pavilion of the Lisbon Expo ’98 and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Santiago de Compostela. His works have been exhibited all over the world, at the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Helsinki Architecture Museum, Germany, England, Brazil and the United States. He has received numerous and important international awards and prizes, including the Mies van der Rohe prize, the gold medal of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, the Arold W. Brunner Memorial Prize, the Pritzker Prize, the Praemium Imperiale.
